Banana is a very healthy fruit for expecting mother during pregnancy. It offers a wide range of health benefits for the pregnant women and the fetus.

 

  1.        A rich source of folic acid

First of all, banana is rich in folic acid. Folic acid is essential for the development of nerves, brain, spinal cord of the growing fetus. Having sufficient folic acid during pregnancy can help to prevent premature birth as well as defect in the newborn.

The growing fetus can absorb the folic acid from your body when you eat banana.

 

  1.        Prevent anemia

Anemia can be quite common during pregnancy due to a larger demand of blood supply to support the expecting mother and the growing baby.

Banana is rich in iron which is essential for producing the red blood cell. Having sufficient iron in the diet can help to reduce the symptom of anemia during pregnancy.

Vitamin B6 present in the banana can also boost the growth of the red blood cell.

 

  1.        Prevent constipation

Due to hormonal change in the expecting mother, constipation can occur quite often during pregnancy. The rich dietary fiber in banana can help to improve bowel movement and therefore prevent constipation during pregnancy.

Pregnant women need to have sufficient calcium in their diet as calcium is important for the bone development of the growing baby and banana is a good source of calcium.

Morning sickness is very common to most expecting mothers. Having banana regularly can help to reduce the morning sickness.

Banana is rich in potassium which can help to regulate blood pressure. Furthermore, potassium is also beneficial in reducing muscle cramp and leg pain which is quite common during pregnancy.  

Another benefits of banana is that it helps to keep blood sugar level and cholesterol in check during pregnancy.  This can help to prevent any heart disease.
