Sakura

Gardens by the bay/></p>
<p align=Image Credit: Gardens by the bay

Sakura returns for its 11th edition with the rich heritage of Japan’s Ishikawa Prefecture, where the spirit of samurai and geisha, and generations-old crafts continue to endure today. Appearances by kawaii Sanrio characters Hello Kitty, My Melody and more add to the charm.

Held in partnership with the Embassy of Japan in Singapore, this year’s Sakura is set against a lush backdrop of over 30 varieties of cherry, peach and plum blossoms in soft pinks, whites and deep pink hues surrounding landscapes inspired by Ishikawa’s historic districts. Wander through streets reminiscent of a geisha quarter, where wooden chaya buildings with lattice-covered façades line the way. The journey then leads to a recreation of an Edo-era samurai residence modelled after the Nomura family estate, once home to a prominent samurai family in Kanazawa. Within its walls, traditional crafts from Ishikawa — including lacquerware, gold leaf, dyed kimono textiles and other regional arts — are thoughtfully displayed.
