Benefits Of Reading Fairy Tales To Children

Benefits Of Reading Fairy Tales To Children

Albert Einstein once said “If you want your child to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.”

For the longest time in human history, parents have read fairy tales to their young children as a way to stimulate their imaginations and develop their literacy skills. Reading together is also a great bonding activity!

Reading fairy tales spark creativity.

Fairy tales are filled with adventures, talking animals and magical creatures of every kind. When you read fairy tales to children, you stimulate their imaginations and help them to develop creativity. Creativity help them to think out of the box, solve problems and think critically. Cognitively, they are stimulated by the visualisation of these stories and this can help to boost their intelligence.

They teach us moral lessons.

Reading fairy tales to your kid is one of the best ways to teach your child to differentiate right from wrong. Fairy tales often revolve around tales of friendship, a battle of good vs evil and love and loss. These stories serve as great materials from which parents can draw out important lessons for children to learn. Through the simple concept of cause and effect which is commonly used in fairy tales, your child learns that for every action there is a consequence. Through this, you can teach him/her basic moral lessons.

These moral lessons that children learn from fairy tales are important for good character development. While fairy tales do not always reflect reality, the lessons they impart are simple: do good, not evil; be kind, not cruel.

They develop critical thinking skills.

You may wonder “how can children stories teach my child how to think?”, but that is where you’re wrong. In every tale, characters in the story have a decision to make, and each decision comes with a consequence. By sitting down with your kid and discussing what would he/she do, you can train your child to start thinking critically from a young age.

They are a great bonding activity!

Reading fairy tales together with your child is not only a fun activity, but also a great way to spend quality time with your child. You can read together, laugh together and learn together. This one-on-one time with your child can help to build a stronger relationship between you and him.
